It's not Open Source, but 37signals is getting attention for their
ultra-pleasant-to-use interfaces. (Same group that started this Ruby on
Rails ruckus.) Basecamp is their project collaboration thing. I'm not
sure what I think of subscription-based software, but it looks nice
