One size does not fit all. I like the way he says he learned how to write better PHP by using Rails. When I see a demo on how to write code in a language I don't use, I can usually apply a lot of what I just saw to the language I am using. How all the pieces fit together and how the user interface is constructed to be intuitive are more important than what language was used to build the pieces. I am a big fan of OOP, but I can write code that will generate OOP classes for me so I don't have to do it from scratch every time. I've got a couple samples I can bring to the meeting this evening, although they are not in the same condition that I plan to have them when I use them in actual production. They do show enough to give an idea of what is going on. They demonstrate the "roll your own" style of coding.
