Um, using the standard CVS client in eclipse _I've_ not had any problems
... ?
When you check out a project using subclipse, you tell it what kind of
project folder to create. This allows for php projects, etc.

I don't have any experience with using Eclipse for PHP or any other
language except for Java.
However, the standard CVS client is horrible for working with Java
projects. (The CVS client imports Java files into a regular project, not
a java project by default and trashes the classpaths and basically your
whole directory tree becomes a huge list of unorganized classes ).
I might have to check out this subclipse plugin, however. Any idea if
it helps retain an organized tree structure for Java CVS Projects as
well?
