If you're talking IDEs, Eclipse is good, but I found it difficult to customize it for JavaScript development. On the other hand, JetBrains' IntelliJ Idea is terrific. The downside, it isn't free. Eclipse is, and you might find it to your liking. This could easily turn into a vi/emacs type of discussion ... :)<br>

<div>I've seen recommendations for a range of programming languages, including JavaScript, Ruby, and Python. Any of those will work, but no one has touched on something that's very important no matter which language you choose...the programming environment. Some of these languages (such as JavaScript) can be written with something as basic as a text editor...but where's the fuh in that? What you want to look for is an IDE (integrated development environment) that makes the job of writing code easier. Take a look at Eclipse (<a href="http://www.eclipse.org" target="_blank">www.eclipse.org</a>) as a good place to start.<div>

<br><table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tbody><tr><td style="font: inherit;" valign="top"><div>Hello Everyone,</div><div> </div><div>I hope it's ok to introduce myself though the mailing list. I'm figuring i'll come to the next meeting but wanted to say hi first. </div>
<div> </div><div>Here's a little bit of information about me. I don't have formal training in computers, a little excel and access is the hightlight of my college computer classes. I know how to use a computer for gaming and basic things. I am very new to linux I've installed it once or twice over the years but never used it much after. I'm interested in learning more about computer security, networking, linux, programming, ect.</div>
<div> </div><div>I have a two year degree in accounting, probally should have gone into something more computer related but by the time I figured that out I was almost done with my accounting degree so I finished it. I'm 26, male, and not currently employed. I like Video/computer games and am love sci fi, especially star wars and star trek. </div>
<div> </div><div>As for the recommedations I would love some ideas on a good first programming language to learn. I was thinking about python but i'm open to other ideas. Also I am interested in good introductory Linux books espically ubuntu.</div>
<div> </div><div>I look forward to meeting and hearing from everyone,</div><div> </div><div> </div><div>Aaron Cooper</div></td></tr></tbody></table><br></div></div></div><br>_______________________________________________<br>
