<p><font size=2 face="Times New Roman"><span style='font-size:10.0pt'>A few
points that this exchange leads me to believe that we may have forgotten.<br>
<br>
1) Someone who does not know much about shell scripting may not know the
difference between sh, bash, ksh, etc.<br>
2) People learn differently. Some learn best from classes, some learn
best on their own.<br>
3) We are a self-selected group that tends to be full of self-learners, as
those people tend to gravitate to Linux.<br>
<br>
<br>
To answer the original question, I do not know of any local classes.
There are some online classes offered by O'Reilly. They are here: <a
href="http://www.oreillyschool.com/courses/">http://www.oreillyschool.com/courses/</a>
. It would be easier to learn Perl, Python or Ruby scripting than it
would be to learn sh, bash or ksh simply because there is more course-based
material for the the former.<br>
<br>
Python classes are here: <a
href="http://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonTraining">http://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonTraining</a><br>
Perl classes are here: <a href="http://perltraining.org/country/USA.html">http://perltraining.org/country/USA.html</a><br>
Ruby classes are here: <a
href="http://www.developintelligence.com/catalog/ruby-training">http://www.developintelligence.com/catalog/ruby-training</a><br>
<br>
There are more classes than these available, and I cannot speak as to the
quality of these classes.<br>
<br>
Locally, the only training company I know of is Spindustry. Their classes
are here: <a
href="http://www.spindustrytraining.com/aspx/training/default.aspx">http://www.spindustrytraining.com/aspx/training/default.aspx</a>
. My one experience with Spindustry training was, well, let's just say
that there was ample room for improvement. I have strong doubts that they
will offer what you want.<br>
<br>
<br>
That said, if people want the LUG to offer a "class" such that
different members go through an online guide in something of a "study
group" environment, I would be very interested in exploring that. I think
that we could probably structure a class where different experienced members
each take a night to "lead", and people pay a small amount of money
to attend. The money would go into the LUG's bank account and could be
used to pay for food at a picnic, marketing for an event, or whatever.<br>
<br>
Would folks be up for that idea?<br>

Bash or some other shell?<br>
<br>
For Bash, you could work through the Advanced Bash Scripting Guide on<br>
your own for no cost at all. First result on Google with the terms<br>
"advanced bash-scripting guide pdf"<br>
