I've been using the Asus WL-520GU router running the Tomato firmware. It's not bad, the one problem I had with it was after a power outage, the wireless didn't come back up. I had to connect in and restart the wireless service. That, and the fact that the antenna isn't dog-proof...

But I'm also running a pretty vanilla setup. No mesh or PoE. I do plan on hooking a printer up to the USB port though. That's why I chose the Tomato firmware. Supposedly, it supports the USB port.
I've had fairly good luck with a cheap-on-clearance Linksys WRT160N running DD-WRT. It has vlan capability and I think it'll do what you want as well. Only catch is that this model is not 100% stable without some additional cooling, such as a chassis fan directed at its bottom.

Looking for advice on wireless APs.
Want PoE and will "mesh" play together well.
Probably should go with N and dual band at that as well.

At this point, I plan to place one on the first floor of a building and
the second on the third.

I'm no much into wireless so anyone with experience with various models,
etc; I welcome the advice.
