I am on mediacom for the moment and it's OK but I'm really upset at them right now. My wife's grandpa died and I was going through their bills last night to figure out how to cut costs and get a working budget for his wife. Mediacom has been charging them $70 per month for family cable (no digital, no extras). When I called they started by thanking me for being a customer for 28 years.

I asked them how to get a lower rate and they literally said they only give lower rates to new customers. When I told them I was going to switch to satellite they gave a $10/mo discount for 6 months.

Mediacom won't replace they're last few feet of cable either.... I was supposed to get the run to my house replaced last year. They NEVER came out to do it. The problem got better for a while, but now they're back out scratching their heads wondering why I have issues. Turns out the line guys never did the replacement and nothing was in my file to do it! I may hate Verizon Wireless (no incorporated back in to PO Verizon?), but who can I beg to get them to bring FIOS here?

I'll just say that Spencer, IA became a dramatically better place to
live for Internauts when the community built their own municipal cable
infrastructure to foster competition with the former monopoly.
Your DSL problem is an all too common one, and I would recommend at
least making a complaint. Companies like this will not replace their
horribly aged last-mile copper until forced.
