I have a D420 as my primary work computer. It's awesome, I love it. Just now my screen hinges are starting to get floppy, but it's been about 2 years or so. Battery life is very good.<br><br clear="all">Tim Champion<br>

My Dell Latitude D420 had as an option a "Slim Auto/Airline" adapter.<br>
You can get this on ebay for about $30 and it runs a variety of the<br>
notebooks. I also used it to power a Latitude D610.<br>

If you want a very portable computer, the D4x0 series are pretty<br>
awesome. With the extended battery it weighs about 3lb 6 oz and has a<br>
1280x800 wide screen display. the D420 and D430 are both excellent<br>
models, recently replaced by the Latitude E4200 and E4300 series.<br>

By the way, a switch mode power supply can easily boost the 11-14v<br>
from a car to the 17-19v needed by most laptops. It's extremely<br>
efficient so really any computer should be able to work in a car if<br>
the manufacturer just takes the time to make the proper power adapter.<br>
Oh, and I bought a universal auto adapter by Kensington at CompUSA a<br>
little while back. Kind of bulky, costs about $95 but works great.<br>
