Alright, i think that im going to try the ubuntu distro, because it seems the most newbie friendly. Can anyone link the sites to download, or maybe ill just go buy it out at best buy. Also, am i going to need a boot loader so i can dual boot windows and linux. Also is there a security system i should buy for linux? I know its alot of questions and you guys probably think im a moron at this point, but i just dont want to screw anything up.<br>

I personally think that the 'source based' distros are great for a decently prepared Linux user to kick their Linux knowledge up a notch, but are a bad first experience of Linux for the reasons you specified.<br>

I know when I first started with Linux I had to reinstall quite a few times after seriously foobaring a machine.. I would hate to have to repeat the three-day process that is installing Gentoo on the hardware I used that many times -- and that was with me knowing enough Linux to avoid installing too many unneeded packages...<div>

Gentoo is a great distro, it is NOT geared towards Linux newbies, nor<br>
is Arch, or LFS or Slackware, all great versions of Linux, but they<br>
sure aren't what I'd recommend to you. Personally I don't know anyone<br>
who STARTED their linux excursions with Gentoo.<br>

Linux to correctly configure.<br>

If you're willing to put the work in, and it sounds like you may be,<br>
then you might want to give Gentoo a chance. The payoff is long term.<br>
