The only thing remotely close to that was one time a desktop I was working on didn't boot after flashing a new BIOS. Turned out I had to clear the CMOS settings, then it booted. I then fine-tuned the BIOS settings to get it to where I thought it was before. I don't see how dropping the laptop battery would clear CMOS though, so I'm guessing your situation is different.
