<p class=MsoNormal>Good evening. I just joined the list, after reading
along on the website for a little bit. I thought maybe an introduction
might be in order.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>(I did try to make your June meeting – showed up at
the 8<sup>th</sup> floor of the Locust St. building, not realizing that you had
changed locations. Didn’t catch that on the website until after the
fact.)<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>I started with computers in the TRS-80 days. I loved
OS/2, and went kicking and screaming into the Windows 95 era. Unfortunately,
with the exception of an attempt to load Red hat 5.2 , I’ve never really
done much with Linux.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>So here I am now. I am managing our network, and
ramping up with running the InfoSec functions for our company as well.
Recognizing that many of the nice security tools (white *<b>and</b>* black hat)
are written for Linux, I’ve taken a laptop, set it up for dual boot with
XP, and jumped into Linux.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>I started with Ubuntu (Dapper Dan), but on the
recommendation of a peer, switched to Fedora 7. I think I like Fedora
better. Seems to be a lot of support out there, and RPM packages seem to
be quite plentiful. But, I still have some questions, and need some
pointers from time to time. I’ve been able to get Fedora to do most
of what I’ve asked it to do, but I know there are some things I could be
doing to make my life easier, and I’ve tried to install a couple of
packages that seemed like they installed, but I cannot seem to find them.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class=MsoNormal>I am planning on coming to the July meeting. (At the
new location, right? <G>) Hopefully you guys will take pity on a
soul that was sucked into the world of Windows and is now trying to find peace.
<span style='font-family:Wingdings'>J</span> I can’t abandon
Windows completely, as I have to support 200 users who still run Windows…
but we have been making little strides here and there. We’ve got
half the office on OpenOffice now!<o:p></o:p></p>
