[Cialug] Laptop Repair

It can be really really hard... especially if it's a Mac Pismo.

More seriously, most laptops aren't as actively hostile as the Mac Pismo. It should take an average person one to two hours to do, especially if you're willing to do the soldering. The only catch is that if you didn't take it apart, putting it together might be a bit confusing. If you can locate a take-apart guide for the specific model of laptop, it will be a lot easier.

It will also be helpful to have a pair of measuring calipers for screw width and length... but that might be a residual desire from the nightmare that was the Pismo.

"How hard can it be?" he asked himself, softly?

I DAGS and found (in reverse order):

I have a low-wattage thermostatically-controlled iron that you're
welcome to borrow. If you aren't comfortable with the soldering, I'm
willing to do that while you watch and learn.

(A little bit louder now...)

How difficult can re-assembly be if all parts are present?
