It certainly seems to be the fashion to view $BIG_COMPANY with
wariness, guilty until proven otherwise.  Big company evilness makes
the headlines, after all.

One key difference I see with Microsoft and Google is that Microsoft
never explicitly adopted a do-gooder public face.  I don't know how
much that will matter, but it does make some difference.
